DOT 5 brake fluid...

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has converted over their older sube to DOT 5?I would like to know what you are supposed to use to clean out the old system.I realize that DOT 3 and DOT 5 shouldn't be mixed.Anyone know of what type of flushing agent to use? Also would it be benificial? Some of my friends in the BMW/VW world change theirs over and claim to have better braking.Anyone have thoughts on this?

dot 5 is really not needed for road use. not sure what you would gain...

if you were to flush it i would fush the system using dot 5 fluid. don't forget we also drive subarus...not really a bmw and really are not driven like a bmw...unless you have something like an xt -6 or a rx turbo or whateven then maybe it will make sense.

DOT 5 is prone to outgassing, leading to spongy pedal, at high elevations.

Since our cars are designed for DOT3 fluid, I can see where running DOT4 may help, but I don't think DOT5 is worth the money.
