Oil leak behind glove box

Featured Replies

In the process of adding keyless entry to my 2000 legacy today I got oil on my hands by touching a metal bracket. It is a bracket holding a horizontal 2 inch diameter shinny steel rod going accross the dash behind the glove box. What is it? A bit big for a freon pipe? Anywhere else the oil could be comming from? I do not think I am loosing freon based on my AC performance.

Thanks,

Seb

are you sure it's oil? could it just be grease from some moving part back there? what color was it?

could it be coolant?

Its definetly oily and with a yellowish tint... Like oil. The only moving part that comes to mind in there is the wipers... I'll have a look.

Thanks.

yellowish does have an a/c ring to it.

Seconded... The evap box is right behind the glove compartment. I dunno what else it could be.

my oil loses its golden yellow color real quick when its in the engine.

Are you always adding a lot of oil?

The 2" tube is a bolted-on reinforcement piece that connects left and right A-pillars (and makes some people wonder whether strut braces a.k.a. strut bars are really needed). It's not painted so maybe there was some grease for rust protection. I didn't notice any on mine but it's a '95 model.
