EA81 Rebuild Tips/Mods

Featured Replies

I wanna start rebuilding this ea81 that I pulled from my lifted Brat and was wondering if any of you have any tips for me. Also, to get a decent amount of HP and power out of this car for a semi cheap budget, what would you recommend? Turbo heads? Dual Carb manifold? What else? Thanks.

EA71 1600 or EA82 SPFI pistons will raise your compression to about 9.0:1. Do some mild porting on the intake, exhaust ports and intake manifold to clean up the terrible casting flash. Other than that, a weber and exhaust work will help out a lot.

I am starting to do this also to the various parts I am peicing together for a ea81 as well. Here is what I would do:

1. Port the heads(extensively on intake side)

2. Use the ea71 or ea82 pistons like said above

3. Shave the heads .020 to .040" thousanths

4. Dual carb intake or convert over to ea82 intake man.

5. Weber carb or carbs:)

6. Port intake manifold

7. Build a slightly larger diameter "y" pipe back to bigger exhaust

Be careful about decking the heads, if you do it too much the intake ports will be too close together for the intake manifold to bolt on. Just a thought.
