Got Sideways......

Featured Replies

I got sideways in an empty parking lot tonight... And I'm bitten by the rally bug... What are suggestions for making my car compete with out spending to much (xt turbo) And is there any specific place I could go to practice driving?

Engine mods, What can I take off to make it Lighter?

there is no real path to follow..you need to be innovative with your mods... but im sure some of the guys here can point you in the right direction.

heck when its snowing i usualy go and slide around in one of the parking lots at school.. or on the many many many roads i found today... i cant wait.

To tell you the truth I havn't seen snow at my house (moms) since like 89?

I've seen little bitts like when the street to my old apartment... was ICE! had a Tempo at the time, It was either the tempo or The Plymouth Acclaim.. both Scary. All ice

Learn to drive it first. Mod it second. If you can't keep your car in control in all circumstances all the mods in the world will do you nothing. Not insulting your driving skills as I haven't seen you drive. But if you haven't been sideways before in your Subaru you will be needing more seat time. And I seriously recommend professionalk driving instruction of some kind. I have taken some and have benefitted from it.

Qman, I've only had my ru running for a few months.

Try a rally cross, or even an autox. You could probably check out specialstage or the local nasioc forum or something to find out when one would be. Down here there's a rally club that puts them on, and they post about it in the SCIC. One of these days I'll get out to one. Being a student and working and all that makes it kind of hard to do that stuff, though.

As Qman said, learn aggressive driving. Take some courses, practice where it's safe, and attend some rally-crosses. The more practice you have driving fast in slippery conditions, the less likely you are to have a wreck.

I work on Subiegal's rally team, and it's definately not as easy as it looks. Not to mention, rally is expensive. Entrance fees, fuel, and repairing damage are not cheap. I'm not trying to discourage you, just telling you the scoop from someone who knows it first-hand.

As far as modifications to the car go, it depends on what rally you're running in and what class you're running. PGT is the easiest class to get in to - you're pretty much only allowed to reflash the ECU and put on a new intake pipe. Other than that, modifications can only be safety-related (cage, seats, etc.). You'd be best to check out the rule books on Rally America's site and build the car off of that.
