November 26, 200520 yr Anybody get a measureable mpg gain by removing the belt for the a/c compressor?
November 26, 200520 yr No. Unless the clutch is messed up, you're only removing a fairly light pulley. People do take out the whole a/c system to save weight, though. Doesn't the defrost uses the compressor sometimes?
November 26, 200520 yr Defrost uses the AC, as most all cars do. Removing the belt does nothing. Driving with the ac off around town increases mpg, as does driving on the highway with the ac on, as oppsed to the windows down. Removing the ac system totally you may shed 100lbs. not really worth it. nipper
