Speed Sensor help for '01 Outback

Featured Replies

My check engine light has been flashing on and off the past two weeks. I was finally able to go get it read today and the guy told me it was my speed sensor. He mentioned that it was on the transmission (manual) and that it would be really easy to install. He said it would simply involve jacking up the car, unscrewing the old one from the outside of the transmission and screw on the new one.

They didnt have the part so I went by the Subaru dealership and the guy told me that theres a speed sensor on the transmission, as well as ones of the wheels for the ABS system.

How do I know which "speed sensor" was broken? and assuming its the transmission one, is it really that easy to install, or is there more work involved? I am not so good with cars, but I have some friends that are, however if its complicated I'd rather pay someone to do it right rather than have my friends mess up my car. Help please!!!

Thanks,

Laura

you might want to go back where you had the code read and find out,he must have looked it up to know he didnt have it. couple optitions here buy the part anf find someone to install or just take it and have it checked and fixed.

if the CEL is flashing, its the one in the tranny. If your ABS light was on, it would be a wheel sensor.

Yes, it is on the transmission. I had mine replaced at the dealership 4 yrs ago, because I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. That was before I found this website.

P.S. Send a message to Subie Gal who can get the part faster and cheaper and send it in the mail.
