Air filter CA 2004 Outback wagon?

I've got a California 2004 Outback wagon, 2.5L 4cyl. I like it, but I'm having trouble finding an air filter that fits. The filter suggested by the manual in the auto parts store is shaped just a little bit different from the original filter, and doesn't fit.

The filter dimension is 11" x 6.5" x 1.25".

Is there anyone out there who has successfully changed the filter, or maybe is having a similar problem?
