Thanks for the tips on the timing belt. I'm going to replace them this week. I've got 97,000 miles on my 86 GL and the oil pressure reads at 0 when stopped and about 30 when doing 55. In town it reads between 15 and 20. The owners manual says not to worry about the 0 reading at an idle. Will resealing it help and if so how do you reseal it? Thanks again for all the help.

Resealing will probably help bring it up a little bit- 5 psi at idle on mine. You need three pieces: the mickey mouse gasket (it kind of looks like it has mouse ears), the o-ring, and the seal. Nothing to it but cleaning it up and putting the new parts in.

 

That's resealing it. If you've got low oil pressure, you might want to replace the relief spring as well.

Actually before you do that, throw a mechanical gauge on the car, dont always trust factory gauges. Get a true reading.

After that, i dont know what to tell you, i would replace the pump, not reseal it. What determins oil pressure is the wear on the main and connecting rod bearings. The more wear there is the lower the pressure. You may try a thicker oil.

Thats what i would do.
