and balljoints.well, i did my strut rod bushings and control arm bushings today.as usual i read for about an hour before and quite a bit in between.had to get the sleeves of the control arm bushings heated and pressed out.crazy.the guy tried it the first time and just could not believe it did not come out.thats what 230,000 miles will do to them.man my strut rod bushings werea little to soft for me.all in all it was a good day.......still have thatdamn clunk.......engine and tranny mounts(thanks jamie, hella cheaper) are here and awaiting install.maybe tomorrow if i don't work.i am gonna be super pissed if it is the coil spring moving around in the strut.........

the super pro bushings I installed were really simple actually. the sleves did not have to be removed just the bushings. if you drill some holed in the bushing then knock it out it goes real easy. car rides nice now and the rear camber issue is fixed too.

Are you talking about the front control arm bushings? What did you use to replace them? (AFAIK, there is no stock replacement for that bushing. I would LOVE to be proved incorrect.)

stupid RX springs...

What kind of a clunk is it? Usually if its suspension related, you can feel it in the steering wheel but if its motor/tranny related, you can feel it through the floor. Also, take a passenger on a trip in it and see if they can help pinpoint which side its coming from and thenget under there and start shaking the bejeezus outta it. If anything, jack it up and go poking around with a prybar. Might also want to try the brake calipers to see if one might be slightly freezing on you.

I love this forum, this post is over a year old but still helps me! In case anybody wants to know the control arm bushings for an EA81 are available by Beck-Arnley part no. 101-3547. I have a clunk in the front end of my hatch too, that I cant seem to pinpoint. I've done the engine mounts, tie rods (inner and outer), balljoints, wheel bearings, and am about to do the control arm bushings. It's relieving to see someone else had this malady!

holy old threAd batman...............that clunk ended up being the tranny itself!the output shaft had play in it and it was making a horrible racket..cheers, brian
