December 29, 200520 yr I've got a 93 Loyale 5MT 4wd. Last couple weeks it feels like the clutch is slipping more than usual when starting from a stop. The engine will actually rev up just after starting to move with my foot off the clutch. If I let off the gas I can feel the engine solidly connect to the wheels. If I don't give it much gas until the clutch and flywheel are spinning the same speed then it does fine and doesn't slip at all. Think its time to change the clutch? Whats the best way to go about doing that? Take the engine out? Don't have a garage to work on it, but might be able to make it through the winter. Any advice, suggestions, comments? Thanks, Jack

December 29, 200520 yr drive it til it doesnt burn. My clutch has been slipping and burning for a year. The trick is, at shifts, ease onto the gas. and starting out feather the ga pedal. Do like jerry said and check your clutch cable adjustment. screw the adjuster in a few turns and see what happens
December 30, 200520 yr FYI, I've never attempted it on a Loyale but my previous Suby was an 82 GL wagon (NOT 4wd) and I replaced the clutch without pulling the engine. I supported the engine and the trans with jack stands, unbolted and seperated them and was able to finish the job in about 5 hours in my driveway. Didn't have a whole lot of room to work and ended up with a few scrapes on my arms but it wasn't too difficult. With your vehicle being 4WD, I imagine you'd have to disconnect the rear drive shaft prior to attempting this but from what I can see on my 94 Loyale (4WD), it looks like it would work. I drove my 82 for another five years (125,000 miles) after replacing the clutch without any problems. I sold it because I bought a minivan (should have kept the car).
