January 2, 200620 yr Hi, I have a 96 Legacy and I have to change the dome light every 2 months (if not every month) I cant seem to find out why it burns out. Any idea? Thanks.
January 2, 200620 yr try finding a lamp made by OSRAM (Sylvainia) or Convert to white LEDs (costly but should last forever)
January 2, 200620 yr Author Ok, so your saying that is just a bulb problem, I sould not try looking for a more complex problem? G.
January 2, 200620 yr G affirmative if it were a voltage problem you would be burning out more lamps than just this one
January 2, 200620 yr Corroded connections can do it but I would think the dome light should be fine. Would not hurt to clean them.
January 3, 200620 yr Have you bought the replacements form the same place each time? If so try a different source, I had a string of brake/tailights that burned out every 2-3 months and went through 3 double packs (in 8 months), then I happened to purchase some at a different store, hasn't burned out yet after 2 years.
January 3, 200620 yr I strongly recommend replacing the bulb with the LED unit from George at http://taskled.com. I have them in my Legacy and my Landcruisers. Major improvement.
January 3, 200620 yr Just for the hell of it, take a volt meter and see how much voltage is at the contacts with the car running. The only thing i can see blowing out bulbs there is a poor quality bulb, heat, or voltage/current being to high (and that would be a real real real longshot on the begings of an alternator going bad). The only OTHER thing is vibration. Make sure the fixture is tight, as are the sockets. nipper
