abs brakes

Featured Replies

I have a '97 legacy awd wgn. The asb is not working properly. When i hit the pedal hard, the pedal gets very hard and does not want to go down. the brakes will not work very well at this point. Has anyone else ever had this problem b4?

Hi,

what makes you think it's the ABS that's at fault? It could be the master cylinder. Do the brakes work at normal brake pressure? Does the pedal pulse at all when you hit the pedal hard? What speed are you trying this procedure at?

sounds like a bad brake booster. with the car off, pump the brake pedal 10 times. Put your foot on the brake pedal and start the car. The brake pedal should go towards the floor. if it does not its a bad booster, if it does it is a bad master cylinder. ABS wil never affect normal braking, unless its leaking, and even then wont have a huge effect
