Brighton Legacy Wagon '00 needs roof rack

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a roof rack

for the bare-top Brighton 2000 Legacy wagon?

I see "Mondial Sportpack" available that might work.

Many racks are "crossbars" which need the "rails" to attach.

I installed a rack during the deBrightonization of our '00 Legacy. Go to a wrecking yard and check out Chrysler/Dodge Caravan roof racks. They are slightly long, and a touch too wide but they fit the curve of the roof rails perfectly. I just shortened the length by a couple inches and the cross bars by about 3/4" (IIRC) and reassembled it and installed it.

It actually fits snuger and has less wind resisrtance and noise than a stock Subaru rack (which the local dealer REFUSED to sell me, BTW). If I don't have a pic at home to upload, I'll take one and post in my album.

You've got a 2000 Brighton Subaru Wagon? I thought Subaru retired the Brighton badge/model in 1999.

Go to www.thule.com They have a fit guide as well if you decide not to mount a permenant rack on the wagon. Capacity is about 100 lb.

Junkyard?? Get one off an Outback, & while there take measurements, screws, etc., for where to mount on your Brighton.

I wouldn't bother with the manufacturer type roof racks. I have two subie wagons with the manufacturer racks and use Yakima racks on top of both. I have friends who swear by Yakimas or Thules. They are both great rack sets and with the proper setup, you can carry anything. The standard car rack from Subaru (or any other dealer) is a bit limited. You can buy a fairing if you are worried about wind noise or aerodymanics.
