'91 Legacy wagon seat belt retractor question

Featured Replies

Starting to have trouble with the automatic retractors on the shoulder harness of my Legacy. Is the chatter, jamming due to problems in the track or something slipping in the drive mechanism? I really don't like the auto belt arrangement. Has anyone found a suitable replacement that doesn't look bad?

Passenger side on mine is completely inoperable. Had to cut the cable because it was hanging out and in the way. I ordered a replacement assembly on Ebay.

I'm with you I don't like these things. I wonder if a standard type of shoulder belt could be bolted to the center pillar and still be safe??

'95s had standard manual belts, but I don't know if the older cars have the correct mounting holes in the "B" pillars to install them. They may be there if non-US cars had manual belts back then. You will have to modify/replace some interior trim pieces to install manual belts.

I thought I heard awhile back that '90-'94 Canadian Legacies did not have "active" seat belts. Anyone in the Great White North know anything about that?

It's true; unfortunately I don't know of any pull a part type yards that are close enough to the border for me to visit; I'd make the trip to remove a set. Part of the installation is taking them apart and knowing where everything belongs when re-assembling.
