To buy or not to buy a SUBARU...

Recommended Posts

hey guys... I'm thinking about getting Impreza 2.0R...

To be honest I don't know much about Impreza nor about Subaru in general. But the look of the WRZ STI really cought me.

I've always wanted a sporty car with a sporty feeling. By sporty I don't mean racing and doing laps... But rather a car that feels "different" and is "fun" to drive.

Just yesterday I drove my friend's 2004/5 honda accord (vtec 2.0 4 cyl) and it was FUN and I hate to say it but the acceleration was just right for my driving like.

In the past I've always wanted a 350z or ford mustang. But with my limited cash I just might be able to trade my current car for an impreza.

the dealer only have two models, auto and manual. and nothing other than the 2.0R. it does come with a sexy gold wheels, ugly spoiler, sport seats (like the wrz), sunroof and CD changer. it has 160HP (thats 10 hp less than the 2.5 liters sold in the US). And i've never been a mod person but if i'm going to get this car I'm going to change the shift knob, tint the windows, and add a hood scope right after I leave the dealership.

btw I'm not even sure how the AWD feel. I'll get a test drive after the weekend if i'm really planing to get one. But does it feels fun for a sporty ride? I like the feeling of push/pull you get from rear/front drive cars :P

So guys what kind of advice can you offer me?

thanks in advance.

i have 150,000 miles on my car and it runs great...although the fwd works well in the snow im still on the lookout for an awd model

I see that you're overseas. Japan? Australia? Europe?

All Subies are AWD in the states so I'm assuming it's the same overseas.

The 2.0R (AWD?) will definitely feel a bit sluggish compared to the new Honda VTEC's. I have the 2.0 WRX. Before the turbo kicks in it pulls like an economy car. However, the reliability is bulletproof and if you have bad weather where you live you'll get more useful speed out of an AWD than any other 2WD sportscar. You also have a ton of aftermarket "go fast" mods so when you get more cash, you can make your Subie go faster.

The 2.5RS (non-turbo AWD) in the US is reasonably peppy due to the added displacement (more torque). I'm not sure how the 2.0 will do with AWD.

Good Luck

hey, thanks for the reply. actually my country is hot and not much rain and never snows :P so I'm not sure if I'll get any use of the AWD (it does come with AWD here).

so you are saying that AWD will make the car slower? thats too bad :(

I'll test drive one on monday hopefuly.

really fun: BMW M3, Porsche Carrera 4

pretty fun: STi, VW R32, BMW 328, Audi S4

fun: VW VR6/1.8t, VTECs

economical, sorta fun and practical: newer AWD soobs, turbodiesel VWs

not fun but economical and practical: plain japanese cars especially toyotas and hondas

fun but not very economical and sometimes practical: VWs and Audi Quattros (especially turboquattros)

These are just the cars I've driven and had experience with.
