ONce and for all: is the Justy 1.2 a S Suzuki engine?

Cheers all. I have never owned a Justy, but I have done a good bit of work on those good old Geo motors. I was just wondering if any one knows if the Justy's 1.2 is manufactured by Suzuki -- or more specifically, if the same generation Suzuki motors are a direct bolt-in to the 4WD transmission. If so there's an amazing source of and variety of stuff that one can do to the Justy. Personally I would like to see a Turbo Diesel Justy.... but that's just me. I'm a big diesel fan. I have searched the forums here and the internet in general and haven't found the answer to my question, so I am putting it here for the "experts" to hash out. If the Justy can have Suzuki Motors bolted in, that would put an engine swap 4WD Justy up into my list of the "top 5" affordable cheap cars out there. Think here power to weight ratio, plus traction.

NEGATIVE - the justy engine (which came as a 1.0L and a 1.2L depending on US / Japanese models), is a Fuji engine. It is similar only in that it has three cylinders. The justy motor is a SOHC with 3 valves per cylinder making it a 9 valve engine. The Geo motor (Suzuki swift, Chevy sprint - same thing), was a 1.0L SOHC with (I think) 2 valves per cylinder, and they never made a 1.2L version. They had a 1.3L Geo, but that was a 4 cylinder, and comletely different.

 

It will not bolt up, they are completely different.

 

Oh - and there was a turbo justy for a couple years I think.....

 

Subaru took a 1.0L justy, and got 125 HP from it. It still hold the record (which it set in '87) for the 1.0L class at bonneville....

Thanks for the details! Still, I think that the Justy is a really neat car. too bad my collection of old geo crap won't bolt up.

I could swear that my 88 Justy was actually a 12 valve. In fact I remember being rather amazed by it when I went to adjust the lifters. Anyhow, the Justy used for the Land Speed record was actually a 1.2L motor, using some parts from the JDM 1.0.

Yes - it was, but it was destroked to 997 cc to be legal in the 1.0L class. It had a 1.0L crank and connecting rods. The only reason they used the 1.2L block was to get bigger valves so the engine would breath better - good idea actually. So it WAS a 1.0L justy they used for bonneville :D

 

And if you read the article, it actually says in there that it's a 9 valve engine.

 

I don't know any of this from experience, as I have never torn down a justy motor. I've read a lot about them, and read through many a thread on the board about them..... I'll get one sooner or later for rally.
