will a impreza tranny fit in a leagcy

Recommended Posts

I took a 5 speed from a 96 impreza and installed it into my 94 legacy. I did need to change the rear diff too to match the final drive ratio. A couple of brackets need swapped too but it wasn't a big deal.

Almost all Subaru manuals of EJ series will fit all other EJ engines (havent found one that wont). For example i have a 2002 RS tranny in my 97 impreza and before i had a 91 legacy tranny in the same impreza...its all good....only thing is MAKE SURE THE FINAL DRIVE RATIOS ARE THE SAME:horse: :horse: :horse: :horse: :horse:

it will definitely bolt up and work if you grab the rear diff. not sure what other parts exactly that you'd need though.

the rear differential has a metal foil plate on it that has the diff ratio stamped/printed on it. read the diff ratio and make sure they are the same or grab the one from the donor parts car if you're not sure, then you'll know it will work.
