hill holder question

Featured Replies

I couldn't undo the cable on my hill holder so I cut it off at the clutch end. The manuel says the hill holder was part of the return spring setup. Can I run without it or do I rig up a small return spring?

thanks

greg

Find a 2WD manual, and take the spring from it. Need to take note how/where it was installed on the 2WD model.

I ran my '82 BRAT without the spring, no issues. Didn't even have the cable that goes to the HH, was missing when I bought the BRAT.

What the spring does is, it pulls the throw-out bearing away from the pressure plate just a wee-bit more, and helps take-up any looseness in the system when you are not pushing on the clutch pedal. That spring was more important on the old linkage type clutch operation, without it, the linkage could fall apart. Not good...

Ah. thought so, my throwout bearing is stuffed anyway but I have noticed more slop in the system without the spring. 2wd subarus aren't very common around here, any idea where it should be hooked up.

thanks for your help,

greg
