Torque Converter Question

Featured Replies

There should be a shaft that sticks out from the torque converter that less than an inch long. It's there to keep the torque converter aligned with the crank.

That means the shaft on my torque convertor is broken off in the crankshaft. I think thats why when I put the manual tranny in, it seemed like the clutch would not disengage. Got any ideas on how to get the broken piece out of the crankshaft?

Soak it with penetrating oil then hit it sideways with a sharp chisel, being careful not to mark the crank.

If that doesn't work could I use a drill bit a little smaller than the shaft to drill it out?

I got the broken piece out! Is there a bearing that should go in there like in the flywheel or not?

Yeah, the pilot bearing. It presses into the 1" hole in the flywheel and centers the tranny shaft. It should come with a decent clutch kit.

I mean is there a bearing that goes in the little hole in the crankshaft? I don't think there is just wanted to make sure before I put the engine back in.
