March 16, 200620 yr My fellow sube lovers, Down the road from me, theyre sellin a 1990 loyale wagon for 225.00! It runs with a good manual trans...but is suffering from rear strut rustout, and theyve come up through the rear floor.:-\ Im trying for a cheap baja wagon to jack up, and not really lookin for a parts car..... is there an easy fix for this kinda rustout? Should I buy it? Lemme know -John
March 16, 200620 yr No. That rust is not easily repairable. It'd be better to find one with a decent (not perfect, but still somewhat roadworthy) body for a hundred bucks and throw an engine/trans in it. There are no parts on that car worth $200 unless it's got new tires--probably a high mileage SPFI engine, high mileage clutch assembly, high mileage single-range pushbutton trans, chintzy DL-style cloth and vinyl interior. Run, don't walk, away from this heap. (Free is a different matter... )
March 16, 200620 yr sorry for the semi hi-jack, but i have an 86 brat that would be perfect for a lift project. it runs good, and has very little rust, front and rear strut/shock mounts are VERY solid, floors are VERY solid. it does have t-tops. just needs a gasket on the pass side of the y-pipe. i am looking to get $700 for it, located in Walden NY by Newburgh
March 16, 200620 yr oh yea, i can deliver it as far as New Berlin (or within that area) for a small fee.
March 16, 200620 yr Author WOW.... Youre tempting me.... I live 20 mins from new berlin (im in otsego county just off route 51) 700 bucks sounds like a rockin price... lemme sleep on it. U dont have a pic do you?
March 16, 200620 yr i will try to get some pics soon. right now it has a few different colored panels on it (rust free and straight) i switched them because the old ones had some dents/rust. it is a pretty straight car, just needs to be painted to match. definatly a great resto project, or daily driver/ off road beater. plus you can park it next to your baja:brow:

Should I buy it? Lemme know -John Doesn't sound all that bad to me -- if you never want to run it on the road again, and have access to welding equipment. Just weld some big steel plates on there and bolt the struts back on. You'll likely never get the alignment and camber right again, but might work for an offroad fine. Bigger problem is that the '90 doesn't have the low range tranny.
March 17, 200620 yr zyewdall, that's kinda my point--he'll be putting $225 into something that will never be roadworthy again; that will never hold an alignment again; and that will require extensive modifications (d/r tranny at the least--and into a rotted hulk of a car) for any kind of offroad use. To me it's just not worth it. If I'd been given the car, maybe...and that's still a big maybe. Plunking down cold hard cash for something rotted so bad the struts are coming through the cargo area is something else, though.
