Front and Rear Struts?

Featured Replies

I am in the process of changing out the front and rear struts on my 87 GL DR Wagon and was wondering what brand you guys would recommend? I am thinking of putting a 4 inch lift on it and putting bigger tires on it down the road so keep that in mind. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

depends on the budget

you can put in real coilovers in the rear. sway a way, fox etc.

sky is the limit!

front you can upgrade to impreza struts with the right parts then you have a LOT of choices.

for me and my lower budget i use the kyb gr2 with the kyb dust boot/bump stops. these bump stops are firmer than oem and more durable.

the front gr2 for the ea82 could use more dampening. the rear is good to go

you can't use impreza stuts on an EA82 unless you change out the whole suspension. they mount completely differently to the steering knuckle.

i would go with the KYBs, thats what i'm running on my 86' wagon, plus Subarus came stock with KYBs, at least on the EA82s that i know of.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Where would I buy the KYB's?

parts stores that handle import performance parts should be able to get them for you, some regular parts store can if they have a line on them. les schwab tire centers can also get kybs and they will sell them over the counter as carry outs.

I just purchased the KYB GR2 from this eBay store with free shipping. http://stores.ebay.com/Performance-Peddler

The prices at that time are below:

Front Left: 234047 $62.03/ea.

Front Right: 234046 $62.03/ea.

Rears: 341065 $59.08/ea. (Order 2!)

Front Mount: SM5364 $57.74/ea (Order 2!)

So far those are some of the lowest prices I have seen. They shipped quick for the struts but they didn't let me know that the strut mounts are backordered and just shipped a day ago. Quick shipping for us on the west coast (2-3 days).
