Good day ends bad.

Well today was my lucky day I thought. When I went to the crusher it just so happens that someone pulls in with a 96 or 97 subaru Impreza outback 2.2 sport. It had the factory hood scoop and since my father knows the owner of the yard I got it for free:brow: . It was side swiped but ran.

Then I decided to switch to Synthetic motor oil. I go to Advanced and to my advantage there is Castrol full Synthetic motor oil on sale. So it was $3.19 a qurt instead of $5.

Well he bad was on my way home from work. I was driveing and thought my tranny wasn't shifting ( It does slip some but works rather well) and pull over and stop, I figured I was'nt used to the 3 speed auto and that I was just not paying attention. I also sorta remember the rpm's geting high up there ( I decided o get on the car when getting up to 55 mph) but cant really remember. Then a when I pull away I see alot of grey smoke and smell coolent.

Dam I thought I had just got BHG. It did not over heat at all and the temp stayed in the half way mark. It happend 100 feet from my driveway so I made it home. well when I stop the car the smoke pours out the cracks out the hood. I open it up and look around and find that my coolent hose to the turbo blew. I am now releved that its not BHG and am still wondering about the tranny. So I guess I will find out tommorow. Doese'nt look that hard to change so I hope its not a pain to get off.

so thats my day, sorry for the long post but I did'nt want to leave anything out.

Well, Kudos to you on the great score(the car). I'm sorry that it gave you trouble. I have had that happen on my GL-10 before. It really sucked. Happened while trying to pass a slow vehicle on the highway. Hose blew, and come to think of it, acceleration was garbage right after that happened. It was a good thing that I was 2 minutes from home and was able to baby it there.

Yea It had great acceleration and power after the hose blew, but I just hope its not that hard when trying to replace it.

Exactly the same happened to me 2 weeks ago or something, the coolant hose just popped of the solid line running under the block, smoke everywhere, but it was real straight forward repair; just put it back on, ziptie around it and drove home, hehe :P

thats happened to me twice now. maybe im unlucky. its really easy to change. you can take the metal intake that goes over top off to make it easier.

Well, I got the new hose on and all seems good, it started to run hot once while test driveing but temp droped soon after I shut the car off. I think it was just air in the lines still so I will refill after it cools down and then report back.
