engine misfire is it bad?

Featured Replies

hey i have 97 sub outback with 180000

i keep getting an cylinder #2 engine misfire code.

apparently there are aftermarket plug wires on.

my mechanic has told me that alot of time aftermarket plug wires can cause misfire.

the car doesn't run rough and i have never felt it stumble.

anyways he sold me some subaru oem wires

which cost $82. (which made me gasp) he told me that is a good place to start.

Is an engine misfire bad? I can't really afford these plug wires and was thinking of taking them back. besides trying to get the misfire to quit is there any other advantages of new plug wires?

just wondering if anyone had any advice.

oh yeah i don't know if this helps but my injectors seem really loud like a clicking

Yes, buy your Subaru parts from some of the places mentioned here on the board one is 1st Subaru parts or the one I like which is Lithia Subaru # 1-866-717-2512, these places will save you lots of money. You can check your old wires by spraying a light mist of water on them after dark to look for fire jumping ( Do this only when the engine is cold ) you can also check the wires with a multi meter. \\

i don't know if lithia is the same place but there is a lithia in reno nevada and they told me that they don't recomend getting your flywheel resurfaced when you put on a new clutch. to me that sounds crazy and i don't think i will ever buy parts from them

I was taking about the one in Oregon, but I would not base my opinion on a company because of what one person that works for them says. And maybe he was trying to say it would be better to get a new flywheel then to cut one down. I agree with this on brake rotors but I dont know about the flywheel being I have an Automatic. I was just trying to tell you where you could save money.

ooh ouch. take the wires back and order some from SubieGal or something. I got some from her for $23.56.

but, yeah, generally a misfire is bad.

damn i got hosed

i thought 82 dollars was a lot for plug wires.

i am a boat mechanic apprentice and thought maybe it was accurate because of the foreign auto but damn they took me. i am a broke ski bum and can't afford that i guess i will get rid of that mechanic and keep working on my car myself. go back to the autozone when i need codes checked.

thanks for all your help
