99 outback sport rear door rattle... pistons possibly?

Featured Replies

i have developed a rattle in the rear door of my 99 outback sport. initially i thought it was the window ratteling or possibly something loose in the door panel. After loser inspection it seems the entire door is rattling around in its own latch. I presume that this could be caused by a loss of tension in the pistons that help raise the door, resulting in a slopy latch connection. When i put pressure against the door the rattle stops.

does this sound familliar to anyone?

does it seem like a likely fix to replace the pistons? if so where can i get them?

Thanks For your input.

This can be one of two things. you can adjust the latch mechanisim, or you may have a broken spring on one or both of the hatch strikers (if you have them.. like the wagons do) You can find out easily by taking off the inside trim panel and make sure nothing is moving when the hatch is slamed, but it sounds like to me it may just need an adjustment.
