4wd Lever Rattkes

Featured Replies

My 88 Sub Wagon, the 4wd lever just rattles. It sound like it is grinding against something. If you pull towards the driver it will quiet down, I have stuck a rag in the hole and it help some, but the sound is so loud I can't drive with it.

Any ideas.

Mike

I would get underneath it and check the linkage. There's a pin (or maybe it's a bolt, I can't remember) on the end of the linkage that sometimes gets loose.

yeah... it's something that holds up the linkage, and I think when it goes out, it let's the linkdage scrape against the driveshaft. that happened to mine... made alot of really annoying noise. Nothing a piece of gravel and a zip tie couldn't fix. I would recommend something a little more.... professional perhaps? lol.

Well, the rattle got worse. In fact as it turns out, it was the rear drive shaft u-joints. Boy when it finally broke you should have heard the noise.

It is fixed now, 24 rear drive shaft, and I took it some friends who fixed it and it is almost like another car. Want to keep it for another 100,000 miles.

It is really quiet, I can hear and don't feel that I must weat hunters ear plugs.
