My car has been in the shop for almost a year now.

The timing belt broke on expressway & car went dead. Was

able to pull to should of road.

Mechanic replaced the timing belt but says the car has no power.

It starts and runs but has no get up & go. He had been in the

network trying to find new engine (even Japan) but cant find one.

He says only thing he can do is tear down the engine which would

be costly.

It's a standard 5 speed with pneumatic air suspension.

SOME1 PLEASE HELP ME !!!

You may want to register on XT6.net and ask there. There's many of XT6 experts over there.

 

My suggestion, drive it home from the shop, and get a second opinion from a reputable subaru mechanic. The mechanic you took it to could be trying to rip you off. Rarely do problems require a complete engine rebuild... especially if all's that broke was the timing belt.

your mechanic installed the belts wrong. he installed them with both cams up instead of 180 apart

 

tell him to rotate the crank 360 after the first belt before installing the second belt

 

happens more often than you think

agreed - he installed the timing belts incorrectly. tell him to install the cams 180 degrees apart from one another. very common mistake (and it shouldn't cost you anything, it was his fault!) but don't start pointing fingers, you're at his mercy until he gets the car done.

 

i've owned like 12 of these things, there should be no need to tear into this motor just because the timing belt broke. too bad you're on the West coast of ohio, i'm headed to akron tonight until monday and could fix it for you with my eyes closed.

I trust my mechanice as he originally fixed my car @ no charge when a subaru dealer wanted to charge me 285.00 just to ck for problems.

They evidently didnt even look at it before wanting to charge that much.

I am quite happy with his work. Any mechanic that fixes a car for free that

could have taken advantage of some1 was unreal. I even gave him money just for being so honest. U dont find that much these days.

I called him 2day with this info & he was quite aware of this common problem.

He is still trying to find an engine or something but is swamped with work.

I told him I was going to try & sell it. So if any1 is interested let me know.

Someone just posted a 2.7 for sale lately. Do a search - but first, check the belts. Miles is usually pretty accurate on his diagnosis. (It'd be a whole lot cheaper.) You may even want to contact Miles - he's a travelling mechanic who has done work in Ohio before.

ummm... www.car-part.com. Xt6 engines are a dime a dozen. Would've given ya mine 2 weeks ago before it went to the yard with the last SVX parts car. I'm not thinking the belts are on wrong but rather a tooth or two off. My 6 wouldn't run with 'em 180 off no matter how hard I tried. Only other thing would be a clogged exhaust but I doubt that very much. If you were closer I'd come have a look but not within reasonable distance to my wife.

 

Trust has nothing to do with it everybody makes mistakes. My mechanic (subie certified and only works on Subies particuarlly the old stuff) put mine on 180 off. Took me 3 days to even think about taking the cover off b/c I trust him too but it happens, especially with an engine that has broken belts! I'd stake money that the timing is off in some way. Granted I don't think 180 from my experiences trying to get the thing to run but it is off.

My bet is the passenger side is 1-2 teeth out. It is really easy to goof this up. The belt slips a bit as you muscle it on the sprocket, and it still looks good at some angles.

i will be in sidney ohio this friday. i would be out through ohio again in ay i could plan a stop on my way to NY
