April 21, 200619 yr yep - and if you look in the USRM under transmission secton - you can find info on converting from the 4-speed D/R to the 5-speed D/R - 5-speed is advantageous if you do highway driving, because it has overdrive - and pretty much the same ratios as the 4-speed

Yup, according to Miles Fox, the 4spd D/R's 4th gear is overdrive: http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/service/ratio.htm
April 21, 200619 yr I thought I read somewhere that the countergears that run the transmission output have a reduction that pretty much cancels out the overdrive effect of fourth gear, and then some, making the effective range something like 1.05 to 1.
