Serious leak help fast

Featured Replies

Leak coming from the head cover, freshly resealed with gasket and sealer.. Anyone got any ideas?

So that we are on the same page; you have the engine block then the cylinder heads, then the camshaft tower, then the valve cover. If the leak is coming from between the cylinder head and camshaft tower, did you use the reinforced o-ring?

Hello all. I helped reseal this engine. The leak is coming from the driver's side valve cover. It's tight and the seal is there. It didn't leak for a while....then it just started gushing out. The thing is when you now add water it comes out of that valve cover. So, it's probably cracked, but do you think it's the head or the block. Is there an easy way to check? Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a seriously cracked head.

DAMNIT... I can buy new heads right? :( what kind of price range am I looking at?

Or is there a way to fix a head? I'm doubting that alot right now..

Depending on the crack, a machine shop might be able to fix it. Your best bet might be going to a junk yard, pulling a set of heads and having them checked out by a machine shop.

OK, this might be reaching but if your intake valves are open and you are leaking water into the intake ports/manifold could it find its way into the crankcase/valvetrain portion of the head? Is it a possibility that there's a failed gasket somewhere and the water is just coming out there? If not, then it's definitely a cracked head, as water shouldn't be in that part of the head at all...

Just a thought!

Hmmm, thanx for the quick reply... There is ONE tiny possibility of a failed gasket, I remember seeing a spec on the gasket that looked like a hole, just a pinprick kind of thing... but maybe.. and we had a problem with getting it on the second time... :( umm Me and HTi - Johnson are gunna be looking at it again tomorrow I think... Thanx for the ideas.
