clutch question 88 gl 4wd wagon

Featured Replies

went to napa to order a clutch kit, there are 2 possible, 8in with 7/8 shaft or 8in with 1in shaft , which one would i need, or how do i tell ? thanks

ShawnW, how sure are you of this? i am in need of clutch work too and also have an 88 gl wagon. i am just wondering because i don't need to install it twice.:-\ will both of them fit.

thanks

'85-'91 1.8L 4WD, including turbo, take 8 7/8" disc with 1" Shaft.

'80-'824WD & "80-"91 4WD, take 7 7/8" disc with 7/8" shaft.

'83-'84 4WD take 8 7/8" with 7/8" shaft.

I haven't replaced my clutch, but at 126k miles I'm getting prepared to... So this isn't from experience, just from reading up on it.

From what I understand, the 4WD clutch is a 24-tooth spline, 225mm. The 2WD is 21 spline, 200mm. But this is for 1988.

Just pulled up my reference for this. See:

(I got that link from someone on this board earlier!)
