96 Impreza Driveline problems?

Featured Replies

I'm a newbie here as far as posting, but here goes. I'm getting a lurching feeling during slow speeds in a turn and leveled off at any speed, you can feel a push pull kind of feeling. Hit the gas pedal and it goes away. Yes it's all wheel drive. Warm or cold does the same thing. The tranny shifts fine and the engine runs smooth. Any ideas??

Check your tires, they have to be all the same size. Part of what you are describing sounds like torque bind. Is this an auto tranny, or a manual?

Its an automatic. I replaced 2 tires on the rear supposed to be the same size. But I do notice a higher tire wall on the rear than the front. All that I have read so far seems to point to the same conclusion though. Will it damage anything if I let go for awhile. Money for tires right now is a bit tight.

Higher gas prices ya know.

Thanks!!!

All 4 tires need to be the same size within 1/4 inch circumfrence. You can get the tires shaved at a better tire store to match. The automatic can take more distress then the manual, but it is already complaing (torque bind). All 4 tires need to match. What you will have to do is put in the FWD fuse under the hood and disable the AWD. If you drive a long time with mismatched tires you will destroy the awd clutches. ALso you will need a tranny flush once you get everything to match (at the latest).

Thanks guys. I understand. It started as soon as the new tires were put on. No such luck on a GOOD tire shop here in the boonies tho. I will switch it over to FWD.

Thank You again!
