Carb Fuel Return Line

Featured Replies

I just finished removing all the emissions related hardware and hoses on my EA82 including drilling a bowl vent hole in the top of the carburetor and removing the fuel return line from the carburetor to the fuel tank. It's running great but I was wondering if it might have been a mistake removing the return line. Why did Subaru install it on in the first place? Is it there to help prevent "hot soak" or maybe to relieve strain on the fuel pump?

It does both. There's no reason to remove the return line; it doesn't cost you any power or economy. I had problems with the fuel pump on my 86 with a Weber 32/36 until I reinstalled the fuel line. The pump would pressure lock and not restart, and then I'd have to crawl under the car and bang on it with a screwdriver handle to get it going again.

I was just trying to get rid of all the clutter possible. It'll be easy to reinstall the line. Thanks!

With my `85 EA82 Weberized, I Did connect to each other selves the two remainin` lines: the Vent and the Return line... It did work fine, but I noticed two things: If I park my car under High Sun... the gas Gauge will lower... ...And when I open the Tank at the Gas Station, there is a Huge Amount of Vaporized gas commin` out... That wasn`t like this Before, So maybe I done it wrong, but the Question is:

Where did you put the return line in the Weber?

To put a return line on the Weber, you have a couple of choices. There is threaded cap opposite the fuel inlet where I installed my return line. I just installed two brass elbows so the return line would point back towards the fuel tank. That's probably the best choice. The other choice would be to put a T fitting before the carb and connect the return line there. Since the return line is a smaller diameter, you should still get enough flow to the carb.
