94 SVX with oil in the rad.

Featured Replies

I looked at this really clean 94 SVX with leather and AWD.

The guy says head gasket but its not smokeing any antifreeze out the exhaust and it runs dam good and smooth.

only problem is oil consumption in the rad, its sucking oil in to the radiator and I wanted to know if these cars have oil coolers in the rad that could have broke.

So let me know what you think, thanks.

Being an automatic, it could be old nasty ATF that is running through the tranny cooler in the radiator, and that cooler is leaking into the coolant, necessitating the replacement of the radiator....

what about a headgasket leak

Of course it could be a headgasket leak, but don't you think we should start cheaper? ;)

A trans cooler leak can certainly put ATF in the coolant, but it will also usually put coolant in the ATF, often seen as an emulsion (like mayonnaise) on the trans dipstick. If the ATF/dipstick look normal, it's more likely to be a head gasket problem. Checking for bubbles, HCs, CO2 at the radiator filler might be telling.

if the guy is being honest he should know whether it's loosing engine oil or ATF. the car won't go anywhere without either one so it should be obvious.

Yea, I checked the atf its normal not mixed so its engine oil. I just din't know if I am going to get it though. Im still decideing on a bunch of cars this is just one I have liked and thought about.
