1995 EJ22 engine question

Featured Replies

I have a valve lifter sticking, but it only makes noise when the engine is completely warmed up. Never when cold. The noise is not bad, just noticeable. I thought lifters made nose when cold and then quieted as the engine warmed up?

The noise is only at idle too, a little gas and all is quiet. (I'm sure the oil pressure picks up)

Mileage is 55K Mobil #1 10W30

Thoughts?

Thanks, Todd

you're positive it's HLA noise and not something else...fuel injector?

how long have you been running synthetic? if it's not horrible i'd probably run with clean synthetic and frequent oil changes for awhile and see how it gets.

some ATF or seafoam may help if nothing else does.

oil pump ever been resealed? that may or may not help.

Put a real oil pressure gauge on the engine and go from there. Dummy light comes on at between 3 and 5 PSI (rediculous at any speed other than idle and even then is lower than I prefer (10 @ idle).

Are you losing any oil between changes?

Thanks guys!

Boy, it doesn't sound like that sound clip!! That's not a HLA in my opnion!

My noise is subtle, only when hot and at idle and not loudl. I'll try the oil pressure gauge.

Oh...no oil loss at all.
