June 13, 200619 yr I need to know if a 3at pushbutton 4wd out of an '85 EA82 car is a direct swap for the 3at pushbutton 4wd out of a '84 EA81 car. I'm 90% sure they are the same animal.
June 13, 200619 yr I believe the only thing different is the tranny mounts. Altho thinking about it, the TC might be different also.

June 13, 200619 yr I think what Rob means is the TC are different for the cars. Your TC on the tranny you have now should slide right onto the input splines and have no issues. I believe its all internal on the TC.
June 14, 200619 yr The Tail housing and rear output shaft on the EA81 version are longer then the ones on a EA82, similar to how a D/R 4 speed is longer then a D/R 5 speed. I have had a couple of dozen 3ATs apart and those parts can be swapped fairly easly; you will need to make sure that you keep transfer gear set matched up.
