Recommended Posts

you think its worth upgrading the brakes to something like rs...and if i do will i still be able to fit my old 15" rims on for the winter?

btw i dont race the car..and i originally have 15" wheels....however when the moment comes that i may need my brakes...should i have went bigger?

any suggestions

You absolutely CAN run the 15" wheels with RS brakes.... If you went with WRX brakes...you'd have to let the 15's go bye bye.

Both upgrades are very much worth the cost. In your case, you might have to update the hub carriers as the calper brackets appear to have changed mounting points after 96.

I don't think mounting holes changed. There are plenty of people with 93-97 Imprezas running WRX brakes on NASIOC.

As for your 15" wheels - they may fit or may not fit.

I heard that there are some 15 inchers that clear WRX brakes, but those are rare and expensive.

Are those stock alloys?

Rs brakes will fit under 15inch steelies/wheels.

Wrx brakes, with the caliper moved outward to accomidate the larger rotor, require a 16x6.5 wheel or larger...although some 15inch forged rally wheels have been produced to fit(expensive).

If you can get a deal on a used setup, go for it. More braking power is always good thing. Plus the larger rotors of the rs or wrx will help stave off brake fade and there is a variety of performance pads available which are made ranging from a better daily driver pad to full on race pads which require them to be heated up to work most effectively.

HAve fun. Drive safe.

I just went and rechecked myself. The RS brackets will mount to your L hubs, making this an easy afternoon job. I must've been locked into thinking about trying to put the RS caliper on my hubs using the L brackets (and stock smaller size rotors for the L).

You shouldn't have any worries.
