I have to go pickup the clutch so I don't have it YET. Now i just need to pull the egnine and figure out how the hell to put this stuff in. I've never done any subaru work before, so if anyone in olympia wants to help out I would be more then gratefull, or just pictures or how to's on any of the stuff (I think I can manage the water pump on my own) timing belts, clutch, and halfshafts are going to be a first for me.

out of everything the 1/2 shaft is going to give you the biggest fight. Sometimes they don't want to come out of the hub. Once you get the engine out everything else is so easy.

I tend to throw away the O ring that fits on the water pipe and use the subaru part (pn: 8069 27010) when I use a non subaru water pump..I've found that they don't last as long and I've seen 4 cases where that failed while the pump didn't..just my 411..

oh and yes two different lengths for the timing belts..

man that gck halfshaft looks good...

thanks for the tips on the water pump gasket. A friend of a friend works at a subaru dealership so I can get him to hook me up on one.

as far as engine removal goes. do I pull the radiator ? I have to drain it anyways for the water pump and I'd like to giveit a nice flush

from what I can tell is the only things holding the motor in the car besides wires and lines (like nuts and bolts wise) is the transmission and the exhaust.

is that right or am I missing some secret subaru guru only bolts?

I heard something about some kind of spring or something that makes seperating the trasmission from the engine a reall PITA is that true on my 87 GL-10 Turbo 4WD? or is it really just as easy as 4 bolts and some elbow grease ?

You're pretty close, not much holding the motor in there. Take the radiator out. The hardest part for me is lining the motor up with the transaxle when you put it back in, but even that isn't too difficult. I followed Miles Fox's directions. The man knows what he's talking about:

Have fun!

there are guide pins that may give you a fight on the bellhousing. Also there is a bone shaped mount (i think) that you have to remove. Do take the radiator out. AC does not have to be disconnected, just put it to the side.

Is the car running? If it is, just pull the fuel pump relay or unplug the fuel pump and let the car run out of gas.
