removing AC compressor and PS pump

Featured Replies

I'm pulling the engine in a 91 Loyale to replace the clutch disc. So far all is well. Think I've got everything disconnected. Somebody told me to unbolt the PS pump and AC compressor but not to disconnect the hoses. I think I've got the compressor unbolted, although there's a bolt that looks like it screws upward into the compressor from below, and can only be accessed through a little gap between the belts. I'm not sure if I need to loosen that and don't have the right tool, so if I do need to buy it I need to make a trip to the store.

Also, are the three star-type allen bolts accessed from top of engine holding the PS pump on? I'm having a hard time telling what is holding on and what is holding it together. Thanks.

I can only speak for my '92. It has the alternator on the outside and the AC compressor on the inside. With the alternator off it's not to difficult to remove the bracket along with the compressor. There's a bolt under the alternator, one at the back of the compressor, and a bolt that has a kind of "long head" that sticks out between the belts. That goes through a slotted hole, so you only have to loosen it, not take it out.

I haven't had the PS pump off mine, but I do know that the bolts on top of the the reservoir hold the reservoir to the pump. Taking them off will make a mess.

Just unbolt the lines to the PS pump (they don't leak much if at all - a few drops maybe) - and flip them into the spare tire area. Leave the pump on the engine, as one of the engine hoist loops is actually part of the pump mount.

As previously mentioned, the AC compressor should come off with the whole bracket assembly once you get the belts and the alternator off.
