August 18, 200619 yr how hard is it to change out the struts and tires from the outback to the legacy and what would be the best way to go about getting the parts to do that, i need more clearance thanks!
August 18, 200619 yr Well, if the search function here worked worth a damn, you'd see that there's an active, detailed thread on this very topic: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62911
August 18, 200619 yr Looks pretty easy based on previous posts; just need the Outback struts and springs from say the same year as the Legacy. If you plan to go Outback tires (or anything with a different circumference than your original Legacy tires), note that the speedo will be off.
August 18, 200619 yr Author ok struts and shocks wear out so i am thinking about getting new outback ones unless maybe someone has some in good shape for sale? does anybody know about how much i would pay for new and used stuff? also on that one thread i saw he did not change the wheels just the suspension, so how much lift difference is there between doing all of it and only doing the suspension/no wheels?
August 18, 200619 yr Author i am just wanting to gain some clearance for dirt roads, was thinking maybe i don't have to do all the outback stuff on legacy that there might just be some kind of adjustment? i remember my 85 had a way to raise it and lower it, you screwed it up or down or something like that? does my 99 have anything like that?
August 18, 200619 yr I doubt your legacy has any kind of adjustable suspension... the outback suspension stuff will give you a 2" lift not counting the tires.. which I think are only 30mm difference..
August 18, 200619 yr The threads I read say about 2" lift. For new parts prices, just check any of the many online Subaru dealers such as subaru-parts-dealer.com Or you could pull the entire strut/spring/mount assemblies out of a scrap yard maybe. Actually, I'm not sure what vehicle you have, but I was planning to sell my brand new OE all four struts and springs for my '96 AT Legacy Brighton if I do the Outbackification to it.
August 19, 200619 yr "making legacy high as outback" actually its a little higher, i parked next to several outback from 96 to 99 and it is really higher by about 1". weird
August 19, 200619 yr Author cool, i drive a lot of dirt roads! do you know of any other ways to lift it, how do they lift these offroad subarus?
