I'm assuming it will, but how much tranny fluid spills out the back (87 dual range) when removing the driveshaft?

ummm a bit. best thing to do is get a pop can, cut the bottom off of it, bend it to fit inside the back of the tranny (best if you have a spare tranny laying around) and tape it on there after you remove the driveshaft. Or you can put a pan under it and drain it out when you pull the driveshaft.

my family is a bunch of datsun guys, and my dad for YEARS has had the sawn off end of a driveshaft (painted fluorescent orange- it has escaped our sights in plain view FAR too many times when needed in the past) for just such a purpose.

 

Of course, if you dont have that handy, a soda can works well too.. just mentioning an old trick for the benefit of any who might not have heard/thought of it

When I pulled my driveshaft, not a whole lot came out. It was more of a drip really. It also helped I had the back end up in the air.

 

Jack up the back of the car when you do it. Makes it easier to get under, and it keeps gear oil toward the front of the tranny.

I have one of these for my autos. It came with a JDM tranny (I hadn't thought of it myself). If you do a lot of serviceing you can get a set of tranny caps for not much money.

 

Or... novel thought... just drain the oil and refill with nice fresh clean oil when you are done. If this hasn't been done recently it would be a good thing.

If you jack up the back of the car nothing will drip out.
