Tire and Forester maintenance question

Recommended Posts

I have BF Goodrich, They are a little noisye but great traction and handling on a awd car. DO you know the history of the car, like the last time the T Belt was changed, what else was done?

I would change all the fluids.

Bought it new. New timing belt and water pump at 100,000. New spark plugs, radiator cap, around 110,000.

Still on the original clutch.

I'm sorry i thought this was new to you. Still if you havent changed the antifreeze in the last 2 years its a good thing to do. DIffferntials look at the recomendation. Same with the tranny.

(blinker fluid ...seasonal hehehe)

You had me with the blinker fluid!

Yeah, I will change out the antifreeze. How many miles are the BFG's your running rated for? Think they'll make it?

Ive had mine for a year and very little wear. DO get the tire warrenty with them as mine has some broken belts from wonderful NYC streets. I think they will last the 80,000 they are rated for. They are a little noisy, but there is a trade off. Quiet tires are made of softer rubber so dont last as long. High mileage tires are harder rubber so louder. i am very happy with the tires. They seem to LOVE awd. as FWD tires only the hydroplane a bit on a sooby (i had TB for a while). In AWD they very sticky.

150,000 mile 2001 Forester.

I found a deal on some BFGoodrichs. Anyone using this brand of tire?

Also anything I should get looked at/replaced at 150,000 mi?

Just my two cents: Last week I put Uniroyal Tiger Paws on my Forester!

Wow the ride is awesome- quiet and soft, this car has a slightly hard suspension in my opinion and these new tires made all the difference for me. They may not quite last as long as harder tire, but they are rated at 70K. I am not familliar with BF Goodrich, probably a very good tire.

With that many miles I would have your mechanic to good luck at the Struts (4) and all the components to the steering; If you put new tires on a car that has issues with these, the tires may very well wear out prematurely.
