September 18, 200619 yr I was wondering what the best way would be to go about fixing this broken seat mount. The previous owner was a 350 pound powerlifter and I guess he plopped down into the saddle one too many times... Already I have tried to hammer the broken piece back into shape so that it might match up to the rest of the mount again. Some needle nose pliers were also used to try to re-shape the mount as well. My plan is to take a thin strip of 2" wide stainless steel and fashion a makeshift bracket in the hope of re-forming the mount. I'll try my best to bend it into some kind of useable shape that will completely wrap around the damaged area, then secure it with machine screws & nuts (drilling additional holes if necessary). Is this a good idea, or do you think that a competent welder could fix the problem?
September 18, 200619 yr As long as you don't weigh 350 lbs, that's an easy weld. Anyone halfway competent with a small MIG box could make that stronger than new again. GD
September 18, 200619 yr You should be able to have it mig welded back together with no problem. Looks like a easy fix to me.
September 18, 200619 yr Ask around on the board here - maybe in the wanted section, or make a new post here in old gen. I know if you were around here I would say drop by on a saturday and likely you would go home with that fixed, and maybe a few extra parts too. Lots of us crazy subaru types have small welders. GD
September 19, 200619 yr Author Thanks guys; I'll check around. Actually I think one of my neighbors has a MIG.
