Insterment question

I just picked up a 93 Loyale and it does not have the oil gauge and volt gauge because it all changed in 93. Can you put an older gauge cluster in and will it all work. Or would you have to change the oil pressure sender or something like that.

i havent done this myself, so i cant tell you. its a topic that gets discussed alot, and i CAN tell you that theres no guarantees.. but im pretty sure you would need to get the sending units and the wiring out of the car that you got the dashboard unit out of. im pretty sure the rest would be OK, as long as its a straight analog to analog swap.

the digital to analog swap is fairly complex as i understand it; i have a digidash and i hate it (crummy temp gauge and no oil pressure gauge, for one thing) but its apparently a headache to swap, for me, because of the differences between digi and non. other than the sending units and wiring (which i may be wrong on, but im pretty sure) it should be okay.. but like i said, i havent done it myself. others have. you can try using the advanced search function to look up what others have said in the past. many people are curious what kind of oil pressure they have in their loyale. some of them have found out.

The wireing probably won't be there, and the sending unit for the oil pressure definately won't be there.

Best just to install some accurate aftermarket guages anyway - the stock ones suck.

thanks for the input, i dont think it will really matter, I was just thinking if it was an easy swap I would do it.

adding aftermarket gauges would be a worthy mod, and you could get a little mounting pod to go in the cavity below the stereo and ashtray if you wanted to tuck them out of the way somewhere.

thats what im planning on.

go direct line oil guage, aftermarket. found several. use the burnt out clock area, or even behind see thru plastic of speedo. the electric ones seem to wander - for oil pump mishaps, i dont like it. the thermal readings electric are very good. could even wire up a light and switch in clock area with clock wiring. its an idea....

the factory go with the gl type dash is a nuisance. I remeber telling my friend one day "that stupid cluster rusted your whole car" and it never worked right! I don't think they no what I meant, and I really don't care if they did. :)

When I changed out my engine, it had a electrical and pressure sending unit attached. Check it out and see. If it does, you will be able to use a instrument panel out of a 92 Loyale. Just run a wire from the pressure sending unit to the older panel with gauge. I`m planning on doing this myself when I can find the time...
