I may have the chance to buy from a near by bone yard

a 97 Outback wagon with a 150 Kmi and very nice body, missing it's driver's side front strut and steering knuckle. ($500 cash w/normal title)

 

but it also has

 

a supposedly blown phase 1 2.5L DOHC (headgasket demon caused overheating and she drove on - POOF!!)

plus

the tranny (4EAT) has issues (bad VSS 1 in the tranny and slips real bad, a flush and a new sensor may fix it?)

 

thus it's trip to the boneyard

 

Now I also just happen to have a 94 Legacy turbo wagon with no title (complete driver, runs great - rebuilt 4EAT)

 

Would I be a fool to even consider swapping the drive train, lock stock and ECU + wiring harness

into the Outback?

 

or

 

Swapping the drivetrain from

a 94 GT wagon I also have. She has a quater million miles and body rot,

the 2.2L runs good but is starting to wolf a bit of oil

and it's 4EAT is showing signs of it's age.

Dude, I am going to be honest I would not do what you are describing. First you are paying WAY to much for that car. I would say "free or up to 100 bucks. Your next problem is you have a 94, which translates into ALOT of extra work. A Sub Legacy Outback with a blown HD 96-98 with NO other issues I might pay 500 bucks

maybe the vehicle costs in your part of the state are different.

 

a 97 Outback over here is in the 3 to 4 grand range

when running well.

500 is still too much for all those problems. haggle down pass 250, especially if the heads are probably gone at this point and the tranny needs a swap. but i like the way you're thinking, just a lot of work (LOTS of work), and i don't know if it would be emissions passable (i know that ca won't let an older engine into a newer car, but dunno about pa)

Blown HD, blown head gasket. Thats why the engine is over-heating. If they took that car to the dealer just to fix that your looking at 1,200 to 1,500. You still have a transmission problem and suspension issue. Unless you have lots of time and money I would not touch it.

I have a 98 Outback with 160K w/2.2 that I installed. I would ask 3K.

I paid $270 for my 96 legacy outback with 2.5 .The car had blown headgaskets,brocken back window ,and needs 1 rim.

would it pass a legit inspection with the ej22t or ej22? i know it wouldn't pass the computer test in NY.

 

i have to agree tho, a OB ej22t for under a grand would be nice.

yes, it would pass no problem.

PA IM test is a no worry as there is no orig. equip. inspection

where I get my inspection done.

 

I'll offer less but it is real clean and is inspected until 11/30/06.
