October 12, 200619 yr Hey guys,I just picked up my latest subbie, towed it home. It's an 1981 Gen 1 Brat, it had been parked up for four years due to the clutch being worn out. It's in damn fine condition and started right up and with a bit of adjustment to the clutch, it drives fine... damn what were the people thinking?I have the original purchase document and owners manual in the glove box.. that kind of thing is always cool to have. You can see the one bit of damage on the front fender, but thats easy to fix, plus it has some surface rust to be tidied up...
October 13, 200619 yr Nice score!!!!!!! Can you scan the original purchase document for us? I think it'd be pretty cool to look one over. Good luck with it.
October 13, 200619 yr Author Yea, i can try, I don't have a scanner and it's pretty faded.. but we'll see how it turns out.i thought that ute was a bargain for $50 NZD and a few swap parts!
October 13, 200619 yr Very Nice, but are the mirrors stock, I have seen similar ones on a 82 gl brat, and was wondering.
October 13, 200619 yr Nice Brat. It's always to cool to get the documentation, I've got all the paperwork from when my first wagon was bought new in 83, including the window sticker and loan approval paperwork!
October 13, 200619 yr I have a good amount of original documentation on mine too. I love how you adjusted the clutch cable and got it driveable. Does that not put you on top of the world??
October 13, 200619 yr That's a damn good score Johnny, I payed a grand for my 81. We should have a NZ oldskool sub meet sometime, that's three 81 brumbies spread across the country on this board. I've got my rego on hold until December, and should be back on the road by then.
October 14, 200619 yr I think a meet would be a pretty cool idea. Where is the most central point in this strange land? http://www.oldschool.co.nz were planning a meet in Taupo Early next year I think, although thats pretty far to go for the south island people, mm I dunno it sure is a cool idea though, just need to set a time and place I suppose. I'm a bit limited to how far I can go atm, still living off my parents for the most part... Although I intend to work my rump roast off through the summer somewhere, and should be employed fulltime next year. Anywhere but pizza hut again..
October 14, 200619 yr Author mmm, a NZ meeting would be good.. but i'd want to take along all of my subbies! I recon 1983's still count as "old school" aye...Are there many owners in New Zealand with pre-80's?My oldest is a 1980 two door 4WD hatchback, then this 81 Brat, a 83 brumby with a EJ22, 83 two door 4WD hatchback and 83 Twin Carb RX 4WD Coupe.I'll have to get this Brat tidied up and reg'd + warranted before it's going back on the road, but i'm hoping to start on it next week, once i roll a 1986 brumby (i've restored for a mate) out the doors of the workshop.
October 14, 200619 yr You sir, have too many cars! At least someone's looking after a few old subes though, instead of crushing them. I'll probably be in chch for a few days around christmas time, to visit my brother. I'll get in touch if I am, would be good to have a look at your collection.
October 14, 200619 yr oh dam im been lookin for one of those utes for an long time and also an rx leone. and cheap 2 dam ya lucky im on old skool but havnt been on there for an long time
October 25, 200619 yr mmm, a NZ meeting would be good.. but i'd want to take along all of my subbies! Can we see some pics of that 83 RX? Thats one sweet car.
October 29, 200619 yr Author here's about the only pic of have of it complete, it's been mostly stripped for restoration now..
October 30, 200619 yr wow im in love with your RX. I wish they sold them over in the states cause id be looking for one right now. Oh well. Good luck with it.
October 30, 200619 yr Author Hey Hatchsub, they did sell the EA81 coupe in the states didn't they? They had the Turbo traction model too, just not the twin carb model? the turbo model actually had less HP than the Twin carb though, probably due to all the emissions crap you guys have to have. Kiwi subbie, i've never seen another EA81 RX in NZ, coupes yes, but not an RX.
October 31, 200619 yr yeah i know they sold EA81 coupes in regular and turbo models. I was refering to the the RX twin carb car. Didnt they have different heads and cam as well? it was putting out what 100-110hp? Thats the car i want!! Coupes are cool but i was mainly refering to the EA81 RX.
October 31, 200619 yr I want to make sweet, sweet love to your RX Have any pics of the twin-carb setup?
October 31, 200619 yr im seen an silver 1 that was the 1st rx leone im seen. im tryed advertising for an rx or an gf coupe but got no answers. and 1 gf im new about im was going to see if they would sell it but they had moved house so im dont no were it went. hey man im love to have alook at ya cars aye
