05 Legacy 2.5I

Featured Replies

Just got my 05 legacy home and wow this car is a big improvement over the old 92 legacy I used to have. The car is rather basic and I would like to buy the rubber cargo liner for the back and some crossbars for the roof rack. Anybody know of a good inexpensive source for these accessories? In addition this car uses 5W-30 oil which seems a bit light to me especially in Texas. Any oil recomendations for hot climates? Syntetics are quite expensive. Do I need a 5w oil or can I go with 10W-40? Thanks for the replies

I've got a 2.5i wagon that now has just about 30k on it, always used 5w-30 here in Florida with no problems. It's a great workhorse.

My garage puts 15-40 in our Subarus year-round in central PA. I wouldn't worry too much about using a slighly heavier oil, especially in Texas. I'd want more protection too. Seems every manufacturer switched to 5-30 mainly for the miniscule fuel economy improvement. I've been getting 26-27 MPG in my '95 even with the 15-40, so I don't think it's that big of a factor. I have also heard that "new engines are built to closer tolerances so they need the thinner oil." But, again, I don't think switching to 10-30 or 10-40 would hurt. I'll trade piece of mind for 1 MPG any day.
