posted on http://www.usmb.net ...thought i would share with y'all as well.............i was changing the axles on my 85 GL wagon (im sure it works with all subys)...and looking for something to pound out the roll pin that holds the axle to the tranny.....had one of the Hooked-at-one-end-threaded-at-the-other hold down rods for the battery....tried it..and it is the PERFECT size...not to small, not too big...shouldnt even mess the threads up (threads against the pin...tap on the hooked end)....may bend the hold-down rod shaft a little, but just tap it flat with the hammer......REMEMBER THIS...it may save a LOT of hassle in an emergency...OR if your at the wrecking yard and notice some good axles but have no pin remover...just grab a battery holder....(i just did it with a holder from a mazda or something...so it works with other brands too)...hope this helps someone

My only thought is "why would you go somewhere and not have the proper punch to take out a roll pin"????

why would i just happen to have a SST?...i dont even know where to find them, let alone the extra cost...besides wht if i accidentally left the punch somewhere because i was just using it and forgot to put it back in the tool bucket...not exactly part of the basic tool kit ...it all comes down to HASSLE.....in an emergency situation this may be really important to someone so i was giving out free info... i had trouble finding this site first after it changed and i found the "other" one....so i posted it there first...then upon further looking i found this one so i thought i would repost it...didnt think i would stir anything up...seems like someone has unresolved issues

3/16" punches can be had for a few bucks at any hardware store. a craftsman one is only like $6....I have 3!

 

 

and yes, there are more than a few unresolved issues about the 'other' site....but t isn't anyone you'll find here.

I think he was trying to be a little funny regarding the punch.. indicating that he does, in fact, make it a part of his toolkit when going to pull an axle, or whenever..

 

as for his remark on the other site, i doubt that was directed at you.. there is an almost palpable feeling that that entire forum got started as a middle finger to the moderators of this site, in case you hadn't noticed... the loss of the domain was the insult that seems to make the minor injury sting at all.

and again, yes. My appoligies, being new you probably haven't discovered the joy of my some times dry humor (see, I'm doing it again;) ) I do carry two tool boxes with me at all times one is standard stuff and the other is for "special tools" everything from an axle puller to spring compressors.
