Where is a good website/store/autoparts that sells exhaust studs for an EA82T engine? I found the gaskets online but now I need the studs. input appreciated.

i haven't found any parts place that carries a direct fit stud. but...all good autoparts stores have one that will work. it's not exact, but works great. i've bought them many times. best bet is to go match them up and get the closest one. the auto parts stores will have ones that have a small un-threaded middle portion maybe a 1/4" wide. put the short threaded end in the engine side hole so the nut doesn't run into the unthreaded portion of the stud. (if that sounds confusing, it's really simple). almost all decent stores that have parts bins have these studs. but they won't be able to match them up by part number or computer, just look. i think they're 10x1.25 pitch threads.

 

the harder thing to find is the thin walled nuts they use on those exhaust studs. they are nice for ease of use, but don't think they can be bought except used.

Also make sure that the threads in your heads for the stud are still good. Lots of times if the stud comes out, it takes alot of aluminium with it. It is sometimes nessecary to use a slightyly larger stud. I think either 3/8 or 7/16 standard studs work. Whatever is slightly bigger than the stock ones. This leaves you the option to drill out and go one bigger to the next metric size if it strips again. I've had do do this countless times, but I still can't remeber which size of the top of my head. Just make sure when you tap out the new threads not to drill any deeper than the original hole or you'll hit an oil passage.

I found exhaust studs the other day at Kreagns Auto parts on one of the little round turn style type racks all the parts stores have. Wasn't looking for them, just came across them and remembered that I was missing them on one side. They are 10mm Fine thread.

If your threads pull out, I have had great results using 7/16 studs to replace them. Plus SAE studs are easier to get ahold of than metric (lowes/home depot usually carry them). The threads in the head are M10x1.25, napa will either have or can order the correct studs with no unthreaded portion.
