Would this problem be something to do with the float...either to high or to low...My friends car will not idle smoothly and when looking down the carb, the gas droplets are not consistently being drawn into the carb...sometimes it will stall due to the lack of fuel...reving it up or driving on the highway is no problem...also again sometimes when parked on a hill facing downward the secondary barrel will have fuel in

At idle, you should not see any fuel coming out of the primary discharge tube (in the middle of the auxiliary venturi); the idle circuit discharges at the edge of the throttle plate. If you see fuel droplets at the primary or secondary discharge tubes at normal idle (<1krpm) then the float level is probably too high (or the float valve is sealing properly).

LOTS of stuff can cause poor idle conditions. The problem with looking down the carb is that fuel delivery at idle is a function of how the engine is running overall - missing and idleing at low speeds will cause massive fluctuations in engine vacuum and won't pull fuel through the carb evenly.

 

Check for vacuum leaks, as this can manifest itself as poor idle, and then run seemingly normal off-idle.

 

The carb may want some cleaning too.
