timing on ea82t

Featured Replies

I just checked my timing and it was way off, adanced almost all the way. So I backed it off to 20 what the sticker on the hood says and now it has no power. It seemed to run fine before but was getting terrible milage (15-16mpg). Now with it set at 20 I can barely reach highway speeds. What does this mean? I suspect it is due for timing belts could that have something to do with it?

Also in an effort to improve the milage I change the O2 sensor, cleaned the MAF, and put in a new air filter as suggested. No improvement. I was hoping that would solve it, but my last fill up was 15.8 OUCH!

i have the same problem, if my disty isnt advanced all the way or almost all the way it runs poor and has no power what so ever.

oh, well mines an 86, i thought u just had to disconnect the vacuum advance line, where are the green connectors, i dont see them.... sorry for the bit of a hijack, but you might need that kinda info too! lol

Did you connect the green diagnostic connectors before setting the timing?

Yeah, I connected those. Mines a 87 and there under the dash near the fuses. I noticed there was an led under there that would blink three times with the green connectors connected.
