  1. well the brake lights go on and off with the pedal, its the actual dim tailights, but no front lights on either.....blinkers work fine. Can i disable the factory alarm somehow, or am i just looking for a pinched wire? There is the security module located on these?
  2. Well its a 99 Forester. And It got in a roll over. It all fixed body wise, but it has one glaring issue. The tail lights stay on when the cars off. And the dash backlighting will flash every 20 seconds or so and you hear an audible click. Im not sure where to start, I thought this could possibly be some kind of message so I thougth id try you guys!
  3. Just FYI 85-86 RXs did have LSD. Iv not only read it elsewhere they do, but MY 86 RX had a rear LSD on it. Sounds like you might have a Turbo GL-10, the badges on the door should look like my picture, Turbo RX 4WD
  4. Uhh i was trying to see if my Subaru would do 105 and then my big feet accedently hit the gas and the brake as i slowed down and it free reved at what i guessed 7k and gernaded the water pump (wich was new), that was scary, i thought the engine blew!
  5. Hmm alright thanks, how apparent is it to see if the ball on the shifter is too worn out.
  6. Hey I need some help asap. I have a friend with a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder and its a 4x4 5 speed manual. It is like locked in gear. You put it in nuetral and it goes forward. And you can go through every gear with it off or on just fine, like the spots are still there, the shifters not all sloppy. And the wierd thing, you go into reverse, and the car doesnt move at all, but it kills the engine as if it was in gear. Did the tranny finally give up the ghost (it grinded into 2nd and 4th, popped out of 1st bad, and 3rd is gone) this is his only transportation and he needs it abit longer. Do these have linkages that go out of wack or anything? It worked just fine yesterday, now thismorning its like that.
  7. Ha its probable that little hose that runs across the intake manifold has a pinhole in it, that happend to me, it sprayed hot coolant at me.
  8. yea a month isnt too long, my friend just resurected a MPFI 85 GL-10 and it sat for like 2-3 years in a field, lol it started up quick too, leaks coolant.
  9. Hmm My friends 1897 Subaru GL-10 has a bad problem. Now when it gets hot, oil smoke starts pouring out from under the hood, i pop it, and its coming from the front of the engine, and oil is seaping out from the oil cap, and i cannot see any puddles, nor massive oil loss dipstick wise. Also he says it looses power badly, the oil light will flicker, and it will make some off rattling noise. Im wondering if the oil pump took a serious death or the main seal or what??
  10. Wasnt there a book, worst cars ever made and had one on the Subaru XT being the ugliest most gimicky cars with poor reliablity and just trashed on its uniqueness.
  11. also some seals in the camcases or what ever cause the ticking too.
  12. The passenger side axle just stipped itself out, lol, that musta been the issue.
  13. Hey, this is wierd, this car isnt an 87, its an 85! its got SPFI!? The engines definatly original, and the stickers on the car all say 1985, and the hood has the factory stickers with the FI info and vacuum routing. I thought they only came fuel injected in 87!? it had the old style flapper door style MAF
  14. Well i found a broken exhaust hanger, wich i removed hoping it would be the clunking, thats a no. The motor and transmission mounts look just fine, and i grabbed the end of the transmission and it doesnt move much. Im seeing a ripped PS rack boot and CV joint on the passenger side, also all of the bushings for various suspension parts are toast.
  15. How many transmission mounts are there? what are they suppose to look like as far as knowing thier in bad condition? same with the motor mounts, where exactly is the motor mounts on EA82 cars?
  16. Ok im gonna throw it on a lift and see if the mounts are no good. I readjusted the cable looser, and the clutch itself operated much better, but it still makes that THUD THUD THUD THUD when you press in the clutch going 30+ mph.
  17. Its a 1987 GL-10 SPFI 5 speed 2WD. And it has a problem. When your going down the road, usually above 30, u press in the clutch, and a THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD happends. And when you push the gas when driving along it pops/clunks like somthings broken or lose and shifting under the passengerside floorboard, and when you let off it does the same thing. What could it be?? No popping or clicking around corners, no obvious broken things, could the transmission mount be no good? or the axle?
  18. ha didnt even see the part about it being carbed, I dunno my mazda Ran horribly rich all the time too and it was carbed, sold that thing, i hate carbs :-\
  19. Thats an AWSOME brat, wow, thats like my dream, if only it was bright red. Wow, how much did you buy it for?
  20. My subaru sat for almost a year with busted timing belts, and i started it and it smoked very badly for a little while
  21. Just remember if it hydrolocked, you can bent valves, and destroy rings with the force of suddenly no where for anything to go and coming to a sudden halt. So i would make sure that cylinders ok as far as compression before doing much more
  22. Yea my RX when i first brought it back to life, i thought it was knocking! I was so scard! But it turned out to be the lifters screaming, after like a few days of driving the car ran amazingly quiet, i couldnt belive people have constant ticking as mine didnt. My cars oil gauge always read above 0 at hot idle, and it never ticked, even on the coldest days, it ticked maybe for a few seconds on 0 degreee start up days but it went quiet shortly. You can easily do the oil pump seals wrong, thats stupid little mickey mouse gasket can get pinched or disloged and crap.
